ATDI / SRTM. The revolution in medium resolution cartography

SRTM, Shuttle Radar Topography Mission

SRTM is an international project spearheaded by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) obtained 1 arc second accurate data to generate an almost complete digital topographic database of Earth at 3 arc seconds resolution. The post-processing done by ATDI generates 90m (and even 50m) DTMs, fitting the following needs in terms of cartography :

  • Large areas covered (Regional, national and international scale)
  • Reduced cost and delivery times
  • The technical specifications are homogeneous and clearly defined over the Area Of Interest

High and Homogeneous Quality Datas

By using a unique acquisition mode all over the Earth, a single technical specification can be defined.

  • Absolute vertical accuracy : 16 m
  • Relative vertical accuracy : 10 m
  • Absolute planimetric accuracy : 60 m
  • Relative planimetric accuracy : 45 m
  • Sampling : 3 arc seconds

Low cost / High quality

The post-processing handled by ATDI (ICS Map Server software) is therefore time effective :

  • Tiling and geo-conversion
  • Local treatment over coastal areas

Technical specifications of the ATDI/SRTM product :

  • Plan metric resolution: 90 m interpolable up to 50 m.
  • Altimetric resolution: 16 m.
  • Projection over a metric grid
